It’s those random ideas that become the best ideas. During a dreamy-eyed first date moment photographer Nick Olson and designer Lilah Horwitz joked about building a dream house ; a dream house with a facade that was made up of nothing more than a collective of windows. To you and I it’s just a cool idea to think about , something that stays tucked away in your imagination only to show up in day dreams from time to time. But to not to Nick and Lilah to them this was something bigger.
Not long after conjuring up the plan for the secret getaway Nick and Lilah began their hunt for windows they would use to start the process. The two found their first window in an old abandoned barn in Pennsylvania and it was from there the journey began. A couple of days later the couple quit their jobs and set off into the mountains of West Virginia to make this glass cabin dream a reality. Along the way the collection of window kept growing the two made it a point to stop at yard sales, and antique sellers picking up windows of all shapes and sizes all with different stories to them.
As and artist you just learn over time that if you have an idea you can find a way to make it.
In 2012 Nick And Lilah finished their glass window facade . They admit that when they were living there and building the home it didn’t feel like much of a getaway but now that they have moved on to different places and have found different jobs – Nick who now works for a landscape company in Milwaukee designing one-of-a-kind objects , and Lilah a clothing designer who also works for a landscaping company in Milwaukee Wisconsin – the glass house is definitely an escape from everyday life.
